I installed kubernetes cluster with one controller and 3 workers nodes. The nodes can reach the internet in-house DNS and external DNS ( 8.8.8.8). But when I deploy sample pods, the pods cannot resolve.

The pods can ping external IPS, 8.8.8.8, on-prem IPS but they cannot reach via the DNS port 53 - error NO ROUTE TO HOST. I believe it's an issue with the firewall rules redirecting traffic but do not know enough about this.

Looking at Kube-DNS logs, I see the following below.

[ERROR] plugin/errors: 2 checkpoint-api.weave.works.mydomain.inside. AAAA: read udp 10.32.0.2:44687->10.10.10.25:53: i/o timeout

  • You should check the value of upstreamNameservers in ConfigMap named kube-dns. These are the upstream nameservers that kube-dns use to resolve external hostnames and they are not inherited from nodes, so you may want to set it the same as your node's DNS resolver. – yozel Feb 22 at 21:12
  • Thank you, I will look at that and get back with my findings – DRO Feb 26 at 15:39
