I would like to base base off of the official language Dockerhub images of Julia and Python. The libraries of interest are Python library pyjulia and Julia library PyCall.

I know I could install both systems myself into a fat image and solve my problem but this would require me to maintain this composite image which I want to avoid.

Is there any way to have processes from one container made available to processes of another container?

What is the smartest workaround to this problem of maintainability? I am thinking of putting some automation together that somehow merges the two Dockerfiles (if that is how they are built).

  • What exactly do you mean by processes ... made available to processes? – Dan Cornilescu Nov 13 '18 at 2:39
  • processes from one container made available to processes of another container, i.e I could run two containers, one official Julia and another official Python... and Python could call Julia as a subprocess for example. – Dean Kayton Nov 13 '18 at 12:21
