In all our Kubernetes deployment manifests, I specify the image and the tag (such as image_name:v0.1.2). This is great for production, as I know exactly which version is running, and can revert to this version as well.

Now, I cannot use the same manifest for local development with skaffold, as skaffold needs the tag to be not specified in the manifest altogether. If the tag is specified, then even if there are local changes to the artifacts, it won't change the image tag automatically.

Is this a limitation of skaffold rendering it utterly useless for the very purpose it was built for (except for applying multiple manifests together)?
